Day 1

Here goes nothing, my first post on Camping Chronicles!

We set out on our 2nd trip in the good old class C conquest. Peace river bound and down. We left on a Saturday morning when Andy got off shift. Bristol and I got the camper packed up the night before. It wouldn’t be a trip if Bristol didn’t get sick right before we left. Haha. She had a stomach bug earlier in the week, but it cleared up. Come Friday night though the fever was back and now a runny nose with a cough. We tested her for Covid, and the result was negative. We are now on year Two of the Covid 19 Pandemic. We deiced to keep on with the plans and head to Peace River. The next morning, she was well rested and fever free ready to go. Let's do this!

Once we hit the road, we were 2.5 hours from our destination. Bristol had a new Playdough kit she got from Mimi. Thank goodness for a new fun toy, which kept her occupied for hours throughout the whole trip. The camper ran great and gave us no issues. Once we arrived at the campground there had been a small cold front that had rolled in. It was cold!

We checked in and got our camping spot a site 69. Once we set everything up, we were ready to explore. We parked next to another family that was from the Bradenton area and had a little boy and a little girl. Bristol wanted to make friends of course. The family was super sweet and let us borrow their sand shifter so we could go look for shark’s teeth. That is the big thing to do there besides riding around on ATV’s, Four wheelers, side by sides, Etc.

We set out to go explore but it started raining. We had to find cover under a big tree. It was only a short one cloud storm, and we were able to keep on exploring. Andy always says, “It’s all about where you park and who your next to determine the experience”.  We parked next other people with side by sides and who had children Bristol’s age. Well, Andy’s theory proves true once again. The people we parked next to were from Jupiter, Florida and knew a few friends of ours. Bristol shared her sand toys with her new friends and had such a wonderful time.

Back at camp we made dinner on the grill, Turkey wings and Vegetables, it was so good. After dinner we walked over to the “neighbors” as Bristol called them.  They had a fire pit, which we did not. We chatted for a bit then we all rode on the side by side down to the front hall for the Ice Cream social and Bingo. They served vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. Bingo was $1.00 to play. The place was packed! We played one game (we lost) and headed back to the campfire. What a great first day.

Day 2

We all slept great and woke up ready for our last day. We had eggs and bacon on the grill for breakfast, so delicious. There is just something about eggs on the skillet that remind me of my childhood camping in the woods with my family. After breakfast we headed back out to the river to look for more sharks’ teeth. We found the same Jupiter friends that we had met the day before. The sun came out and we were able to take off our jackets. The kids played and one of the mom’s was brave enough to go out into the water and find the sharks teeth. That’s where they are in the middle of the river. She found a bunch and let us keep one. We hung around and talked for a while before heading back to camp to pack up and head home.

This trip was to figure out all the things we needed for the camper for our big trip we are planning for July. We will be going in the camper for a full month. Leaving West Palm Beach, Florida and headed to Michigan. We made our list of all the things we need to do for the big adventure. There is so much to do but we will get it done.

All in all, the camper is solid it just needs some TLC. We have big to do list, but we are prepared and determined!

What a great trip and a great test for the camper . I can’t wait to go back this weekend for fathers day . My favorite part of the trip was hiding from the rain under the big tree !!
